TIMELINE & COSTS

The AOC program will be launched nationally through large format film venues, museums, science centers, and zoos as well as through grass roots non-governmental organizations (NGOs) across the country that are dedicated to ocean-related issues. The program materials will be designed to work across all media and educational platforms. The following timetable of events and activities is based upon the expectation of achieving the necessary funding for implementation.

2004–2006

Planning Period: Program Development

Target Message—America's Oceans: Develops the plan to raise Americans’ awareness of the importance of our ocean heritage, the use of their public trust, and their role in protecting it. Key planned components:

• Large format film development

• Educational materials planning

• Additional audiovisual components

• Individual and organizational partnerships

• Distribution strategies

• Marketing & Public Relations Planning

2006–2015

Implementation Period: Phase One–Beginning Phase Two

Produce and Deliver successive suites of Films and Educational Materials Across America

• Mobilize media and NGOs to reach citizens and policy makers

• Rollout Marketing & Promotional program

• Educating mass media sources

• Release of the program and its integrated components

2008–2020

Implementations Period: End Phase Two–Phase Three

Broaden Program to Reach Additional National and International Audiences

Follow-on programs: Program development to raise awareness to conserve the ocean realm and its living resources.

• Target international awareness of oceanic ecological interdependence to reach 50% of the EEC/U.S./Japan/China blocks and 25% of global population/5 years

• Mobilize media, NGOs, museums, and centers for higher learning, etc.
